WHAT IS LOWER CROSS SYNDROME?

Lower cross syndrome is a common postural imbalance that is characterized by an anterior pelvic tilt, tightness in the hip flexors, and weakness in the gluteal muscles. This condition can cause a variety of issues such as lower back pain, knee pain, and even hip pain.

Upper Cross Syndrome and Lower Cross Syndrome are similar conditions that occur in different parts of the body. Common causes of Lower Cross Syndrome are similar to Upper Cross Syndrome. Read our latest blog to learn more about Upper Cross Syndrome today!

LOWER CROSS SYNDROME TREATMENT OPTIONS

If you are experiencing pain or discomfort in your lower back, hips, or knees, it is important to schedule an appointment with a physical therapist as soon as possible. A physical therapist will be able to diagnose and treat lower cross syndrome and develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs.

There are simple activities and exercises that you can do to prevent and correct lower cross syndrome. Here are a few that physical therapists recommend:

  • Glute bridges: Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Push through your heels to lift your hips off the ground. Hold for 5-10 seconds and release. Repeat 10-15 times.
  • Hamstring stretches: Sit on the floor with your legs straight in front of you. Reach forward and try to touch your toes. Hold for 30 seconds and release. Repeat 2-3 times.
  • Clamshells: Lie on your side with your legs bent at a 90-degree angle. Keeping your feet together, lift your top knee as high as you can. Lower it back down. Repeat 10-15 times.
  • Planks: Get into a push-up position with your forearms on the ground. Hold this position for 30 seconds. Repeat 2-3 times.
  • Posture reminder: Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to check your posture every hour.
